Application Characteristics of Injection Moulded Plastic Parts

What does the application characteristics of injection moulded plastic parts have?
  • Light fastness: Outdoor products exposed to strong light, the light fastness (sun-proof) grade requirement of the colorant used is an important indicator, if the light fastness grade is poor, the injection moulded plastic parts will quickly fade in the use. The light fastness grades of injection moulded plastic parts shouldn't be less than six grades, and the best ones are seven or eight grades. The indoor injection moulded plastic parts can be four or five grade. The light resistance of the carrier resin also has a great influence on the change of color, and the UV-induced resin changes its molecular structure and appears discolored after irradiation. Adding light stabilizers such as uv absorbers to the color masterbatch can improve the light resistance of colorants and colored injection moulded plastic parts.

  • Heat resistance: The thermal stability of a pigment refers to the degree of thermal weight loss, discoloration, and fading of the pigment at the processing temperature. The ingredient of inorganic pigments are metal oxides and salts, which have good thermal stability and high heat resistance. Organic pigments undergo molecular structure changes and small amounts of decomposition at a certain temperature. Especially for PP, PA and PET injection moulded parts, the processing temperature is above 280°C. When choosing the colorant, it is necessary to pay attention to the heat resistance of pigment.

  • Oxidation resistance: Some of organic pigments fade gradually due to the produced macromolecule degradation or other changes after oxidation. In this process, it should be paid attention to the high-temperature oxidation and the oxidation due to strong oxidants. When lakes, azo pigments and chrome yellow are used in combination, the red color will gradually decreases.

  • Acid and alkali resistance: The fading of colored injection moulded plastic parts is related to the chemical resistance (acid and alkali resistance, revivification of resistance to oxidation) of colorants. Such as, molybdenum chrome red is resistant to dilute acid, but sensitive to alkali, and cadmium yellow is not resistant to acid. These two pigments and phenolic resins can strongly restore certain colorants, which seriously affecting the heat resistance, weather resistance of colorants, so as to cause fading.
