What is injection moulding?

The advantages of the injection moulding are fast production speed, high efficiency, automatic operation, variety of colors, shapes from simple to complex, the size can be from large to small, and the size of the injection moulded part is accurate, the product is easy to be replaced, and injection moulded parts with complex shape can be moulded.
At a certain temperature, the completely molten plastic material is stirred by a screw, and the molten plastic material is injected into mould cavity by high pressure. After cooling and solidifying, the injection moulded parts can be obtained. The injection moulding is one of the importance plastic processing methods.

Moulding, injection, pressure holding, cooling, mould opening, release of injection moulded parts.
The above injection moulding process is repeated, and the injection moulded parts can be periodically produced in batches. The moulding of thermosetting plastics and rubber also includes the same process, but the barrel temperature is lower than that of the thermoplastic, the injection pressure is higher, the mould is heated. The molten materials are modified and vulcanized after injecting, and then the injection moulded parts are released.
The current trend of processing technology is developing in the direction of high-tech, including: micro injection moulding, high-fill composite injection moulding, water-assisted injection moulding, mixing and special injection moulding processes, foam injection moulding, mould technology, and simulation technology.

Injection moulding cycle time
The time required to complete once injection moulding process is called the injection moulding cycle.
Injection moulding cycle directly affects labor productivity and equipment utilization. Therefore, in the injection moulding process, the relevant time in the injection moulding cycle should be shortened as much as possible under the premise of ensuring the quality of injection moulded parts. Injection time and cooling time are of the utmost importance throughout the injection moulding cycle and they have a decisive influence on the quality of injection moulded parts. The feeding time in the injection time is directly inversely proportional to the feeding rate, and the feeding time is generally about 3-5 seconds. The pressure holding time in the injection time is the pressure time of the plastic in the cavity, which accounts for a large proportion in the whole injection time, generally about 20-120 seconds (the extra-thick parts can be as high as 5-10 minutes). Before the melting of the melt at the gate, the amount of dwell time has an effect on the dimensional accuracy of the plastic parts. If it is later, it has no effect. The holding time also has the best value, which is known to depend on the material temperature, the mould temperature and the size of the main runners and gates. If the size and process conditions of the main runners and gates are normal, it is usually take the smallest pressure value as standard. The cooling time is mainly determined by the thickness of the plastic parts, the thermal properties and crystallization properties of the plastic, and the mould temperature. Other times in the injection moulding cycle are related to whether the production process is continuous and automated, as well as the degree of continuity and automation.

The injection mould can be divided into cold runner mould and hot runner mould according to the gating system.
